Crafting Personalised Vows

Your personalised wedding vows are the heart of your ceremony; the promises that will shape your married life together.

As a fun, relaxed, and friendly celebrant based in Dunedin, I believe in making every moment of your wedding day uniquely yours.

Adding in your personalized vows just makes your day so much more special. Here’s how you can create vows that reflect your relationship and bring your love story to life.

  1. Start with your Love Story

Think about your journey together. How did you meet? What moments stand out? The best vows are those that reflect your shared experiences and the path you’ve taken together. Take some time to jot down some highlights. These memories will form the backbone of your vows.

  2. Speak from the Heart

Your vows should be a reflection of your feelings. Don’t worry about sounding perfect - what matters most is that they are genuine. Speak about your love, your hopes for the future, and the promises you want to make.

  3. Include Personal Touches

Infuse your vows with personal touches that only the two of you would understand. Whether it’s a shared joke, a favourite quote, or meaningful song lyric, these little details will make your vows even more special. Remember, this is about celebrating your unique love story.

  4. Discuss Tone and Length with Your Partner

Your vows don’t need to be the same, but if you start the process by agreeing on a general length then it will keep it cohesive. As will the tone in which you are writing. Are you aiming for funny, lighthearted, or romantic and heartfelt.

  5. It’s ok to get Emotional!

Writing the vows is one thing, reading them out is another. Remember, as your celebrant I will be on hand with those tissues. It’s ok if you cry, you are expressing your emotions to your forever person and you are surround by your favourite people, who don’t mind if you need to take a minute to wipe those tears.

  6. Get Some Help if Needed

If you’re struggling to put your feelings into words, don’t hesitate to ask for help. As a celebrant who loves helping couples create their perfect day, I’m always here to offer guidance and ideas. Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly chat over coffee to get the inspiration flowing.

  7. Enjoy the moment

When the moment comes to share your vows, take a deep breath and look into your partner’s eyes. Enjoy the moment. This is a celebration of your love and commitment - so soak it all in!

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating vows that are as unique as your relationship.
